Gateway to the Grand Circle, Canyon High Country is your entrance to the   Grand Canyon,   Glen Canyon -   Lake Powell,   Canyon de Chelly, and Monument Valley. Walnut Canyon, not part of the Grand Circle, is another gorgeous destination. Splendid scenery greets you throughout Canyon High Country.

Arizona offers a vast number of recreational activities and most can be found throughout Canyon High Country. Enjoy the scenic beauty while skiing at Snowbowl, one of Arizona's three ski areas, or while boating (wow - a houseboat!) within the crimson canyons hugging Lake Powell.

Educational opportunities abound with High Country being home of Northern Arizona University   (NAU)   and several community colleges. NAU is one of three State Universities in Arizona.

Flagstaff Arizona lies at the foot of the San Francisco Peaks and is surrounded by the world's largest stand of ponderosa pine. According to legend, the peaks are home of the "kachinas", supernatural beings who visit the Navajo and Hopi people during winter solstice. Flagstaff is appx 70 miles from Grand Canyon. Historic Route 66 is proudly preserved through this community. Only 2-1/ 2 hours North of Phoenix Arizona travel to Flagstaff is easy for a family vacation or week-end.

Other towns to be found in Canyon High Country include Williams appx 70 miles from Grand Canyon, Kayenta and Chinle on the Navajo Indian Reservation, and Page Arizona appx 8 miles from Lake Powell, along with some of the smaller towns throughout the area.
